Our partner Church in Uganda
We are linked with Nsambya Full Gospel Church in the slum area of Kampala which is the capital city of Uganda. There is something like 1200 FG churches across the country and most of them have been planted as a result of evangelistic campaigns. A team arrive and often have maybe one contact and they preach the Gospel of Salvation in Jesus Christ. People respond and a church is born just like in the New Testament. Some churches are very small with a part time Pastor and some can be fairly large but only in big towns. Uganda is very rural and transport is difficult and expensive so churches need to be in reasonable walking distance of villages. In the rainy season walking is the only viable mode of transport.
The full Gospel Church was started by Canadian Missionaries in the late 1950’s and they built a Bible college at Makere (one of the Kampala hills). The dictator Idi Amin expelled all missionaries and closed the churches and so the church went underground for a while Pastor Kinataama who in our contact man and friend was born in Nakkwade NW of Kampala and was saved as a teenager. He was imprisoned and beaten under the Amin regime and also imprisoned one time in a large trench along with many others who died from the heat. Praise God that he survived and graduated from the Bible College as the Rev Kinataama. Pastor Paul (it would be an insult to call him Paul whilst in Uganda) rose through the ranks to become the Vice Chairman of the FG Churches but all the time retaining his pastorate at Nsambya and running conferences and camps (where we came in) and also evangelistic campaigns.
Pastor Paul now lives back in his home village with Joyce and 4 children and is a much respected member of the community. A remarkable but very humble man greatly used by God and a privilege to call a friend.
